Maria Multiverse is a printmaking zine built around the impossible question, “Who are you?” I have always struggled to describe myself, so I approached it by breaking myself into the parts I do recognize: traits, tendencies, and little pieces of my personality.
Each one becomes its own character in its own universe, inspired partly by the idea of multiple versions of a person, like in the movie Mickey 17 (if you're familiar). The zine explores how different people see different “Marias,” while the true me holds them all together.
I created all illustrations, copywriting, and layout for this project. It was originally produced on a risograph machine as a small zine intended for distribution, and later was recreated into a larger magazine (for more accessible printing) as pictured below. The original zine folds out to reveal a 11x17in poster of one of the Marias from the multiverse. I printed, assembled, and produced a run of 25 copies.
